My Experience

 

Over my 30 plus years of working in the reward and benefits field I have worked for some great organizations. I have had great mentors, managers, and reward 'gurus', and worked across all levels, from drum rollers to CEO's and Boards. And through this, I have been able to hone, test and apply my skills.

Ainsbury Remuneration Consulting (ARC)

I started my own practice in late Q1 2022 as a result of the encouragement of associates and I'm so glad I did. It has allowed me to do what I love, that is putting into practice all my remuneration knowledge and skills, and to assisting organizations to meet their remuneration goals.

In the short time I have been operating, I have helped several clients covering, the most basic data analysis to developing an Executive Long Term Incentive scheme (this is still a work-in progress).

Old Mutual Limited (OML)

An organisation of approx. 30 000 employees, providing individuals, businesses, corporates and institutions with long-term savings, protection, investment, and lending solutions spanning 14 countries across Asia and Africa.

In my 9 plus years at OML I held numerous reward portfolios at a senior reward manager level, including:

  • Group Reward and Benefit advisory accountability across OML with a key focus on Short Term Incentive Plans and Total Guaranteed Pay.
  • Executive Remuneration
  • Group Reward & Benefit Governance and Compliance
  • Long Term Incentive Plans & Shares
  • Group Remuneration Board Committee responsibility, as well as subsidiary remuneration board oversight
  • Workday implementation (the Compensation and the Advanced Compensation Modules), etc.

There were several highlights from my time spent at OML , including:

  • Being part of the core team that developed and implemented
    • A new Short Term Incentive Plan for the OML Group
    • The Reward Governance and Policy requirements for the OML listing
  • Leading, with a colleague, the move of OM Retirement Fund to an umbrella retirement scheme
  • Leading the implementation / roll-out of the Workday Compensation / Advanced Compensation Modules
  • Overhauling the Executive Remuneration approach, etc.

British Petroleum - Southern Africa

One of the world's leading international oil and gas companies.

In my 12 plus years at BPSA, I was accountable for the leadership of the full Reward, Benefit and Performance function across the company, including Payroll and HR Information Systems.

Highlights include:

  • Leading the design and implementation of a standardised job evaluation system.
  • Part of the core global reward team that standardised BP's short-term incentive pay program - impacting 100,000+ employees globally
  • Leading the centralisation of all HR practices and payroll operations into a single operational hub.
  • Project lead on several section 197 transfers, most notably the integration of Castrol into BPSA, etc.

Norwich Life SA Ltd

This small company offered financial services including life insurance, unit trusts asset management, property development, medical aid and international investment in South Africa.

In my 5+ years at Norwich, I was accountable for the leadership of the full Reward, Benefit and Performance function across the company, including Payroll and HR Information Systems.

Highlights include:

  • The design and implementation of a Total Guaranteed Package reward framework.
  • The development and implementation of an integrated Payroll and HR Information System.
  • The implementation of a standardised job evaluation system.
  • The alignment of the Reward and Benefit governance framework taking account local and international financial services regulatory, for the company listing.
  • Plus, being part of the Fedsure / Norwich integration team following the purchase of Norwich by Fedsure.
